The San Francisco Bay Area Water Transit Authority (WTA), soon to be the Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA), brought its design for the Oyster Point Ferry Terminal to the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) Design Review Board on January 7, 2008. This Board viewed the design with favor, but suggested that ways of addressing wind impacts on terminal users and visitors waiting outside the covered terminal should be explored.

On January 9, the South San Francisco City Council reviewed the design and approved the Precise Plan for the ferry terminal, opening the way for further action to make the terminal a reality.

The terminal will have slips for two vessels, which will be 149-passenger state-of-the-art boats that will provide significant environmental improvements including reduced air emissions, fuel economy, and low wake and wash to minimize impacts on aquatic habitats and passing small vessels. The trip between Oyster Point and Oakland's Jack London Square will take approximately 30 minutes.
