New Pier to Replace
Romeo Pier
Dornbusch Associates completed a preliminary
economic feasibility analysis of constructing a new pier to replace the aging
Romeo Pier in Pillar Point's outer harbor. The study, funded by a Coastal
Conservancy grant, received input from, and was reviewed by, the Princeton
Citizens Advisory Committee. The District is now exploring possible participation
in the project by federal and state agencies, and educational institutions
as a means for obtaining construction funding. Return to top.
Progress On Princeton
Shoreline Erosion Control and Public Access
The several concerned agencies convened by County Supervisor Rich Gordon continue to meet to craft a solution to the problem. The Army Corps of Engineers has produced a report analyzing the effects of Pillar Point's federal outer breakwater on the Princeton shoreline, and indicating a basis for a possible Corps remediation project. A local sponsor is needed. Another possible source of money being explored is the State Dept. of Boating and Waterways' shoreline protection program. The Harbor District has recently completed a harbor dredging study that identifies alternatives for dredged material placement including on the Princeton beach.

Seventy-one New Berths and Boat Haul-out Project
The District is beginning a new project to install 71 new boat berths in the Inner Harbor in the vicinity of the 'perched beach'. The project will include dredging a basin for the berths, placing the sediment on the perched beach behind a new bulkhead, installing the berths, constructing new access walkways, landscaping, and vehicle parking behind the bulkhead, and links to the new restrooms. The project also includes a feasibility study of a boat haul-out facility, needed in the harbor since the close of the Princeton Boatyard. Project planning will provide opportunities for the public to contribute to the planning process.
Winzler & Kelly Engineers have completed the initial dredging study task. Winzler & Kelly Engineers are now investigating the feasibility of a boat haul-out and repair facility as part of the project.
The District’s 71-berth and haul-out Committee reviewed the haul-out feasibility study and has decided that the haul-out facility is not feasible at this time. Alternatives are being explored. The study of dredging and bulkhead extension will be continued.
