AMSEA Training

Our team works hard to keep our waters safe for all 🚤

SMCHD Training Officer and Deputy Harbor Master Cary Smith recently completed an intense educational 6-day Alaska Marine Safety Education Association (AMSEA) Instructor Training Course!

🌊🚨The training focused on hands-on, in-water survival and rescue tactics, including life raft deployments, immersion suit donning, damage control, and abandon-vessel drills.

With this certification, the Harbor District can now provide dedicated safety and drill training directly to our local commercial fishing crews.

By training our fleet and our rescuers together, we ensure everyone knows exactly what to expect, what survival gear is being used, and how to communicate effectively during a crisis. When Harbor Patrol and fishing crews are on the exact same page, rescues happen faster and lives are saved.
