Commissioner Jim Tucker of San Mateo was elected to the Harbor Commission in November 1998, following his appointment to fill a vacancy earlier in the year.

Jim Tucker is a Vietnam veteran having served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1966.

Mr. Tucker is a former Juvenile Probation Officer for the City and County of San Francisco leaving the Court after twelve years of service to form his own construction company. Today he is a licensed general building contractor and engineer. He has been active in San Mateo County for more than 30 years. While serving as an elected member of the City Council of Daly City (1978-1990), he was selected to be Mayor for two terms by his colleagues.

His community activities have included serving on numerous boards and committees including the Project 90 Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Foundation, San Mateo Easter Seals, Peninsula Re-Care, Stonestown YMCA, San Mateo County Criminal Justice Council, and he has been a Sponsor in Ducks Unlimited.

At San Francisco State University he attained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, and then a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Golden Gate University. Mr. Tucker and his wife Buffy have three children and seven grandchildren and have lived in San Mateo County for over 35 years.
